Intro: Allan Jude

Hello everyone,

Following @mercenary_sysadmin over here from r/zfs and saw that people are introducing themselves, so joining in.

I’ve been an OpenZFS admin for almost 14 years and a developer for the last 10 years. I also co-authored “FreeBSD Mastery: ZFS” and “FreeBSD Mastery: Advanced ZFS” with Michael W. Lucas.

I have a fairly large home lab because of my work, 6 machines and just shy of 700 TiB of storage.
I mostly use FreeBSD at home, but have a lot of experience with ZFS on RHEL/CentOS and Ubuntu.

At my day job, we provide services around ZFS, including system/pool design & consulting, support subscriptions, data recovery, and custom feature development.

In my spare time, I try to help others with their ZFS issues, and work on my own pet features.

Hey Allan, Welcome!

It would be interesting to hear what you run at home in your lab, since it is work focused. Do you keep is distinctly separate both network and service wise from the rest of your home? How do you maintain WAF (Wife Approval Factor)? Is it also used for personal use (Backing up family machines, trying new services and features purely for home use, or is it really just work purpose limited?)
