Is it safe to do an upgrade of Ubuntu with ZoL from 23.10 to 24.04? Ubuntu has a very bad batting average when dealing with upgrades which include ZFS. Heck, Ubuntu can be dicey on just a regular ZFS update.
Should be fine. Is this a ZFS on root situation? If you’re doing zfsbootmenu, it’s EXTREMELY safe because you can just boot from a snapshot of 23.10 again if something goes wrong with the in-place upgrade to 24.04.
For what it’s worth, I’ve upgraded 3 physical machines in the past week to Ubuntu 24.04, all with ZFS running and have not had any problems.
I will caveat this with the fact that none of these are ZFS on root. They are all a base of Ubuntu on a separate OS drive with other drives containing my vdevs.
